St. Aloysius College (Autonomous) to host Imprints 2010

Mangalore, 30, January 2010: The Students and Science Faculty of St. Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangalore are gearing up to host the most awaited National Level Science Fest and Exhibition – Imprints 2010 on 3^rd and 4^th February 2010.

The inaugural ceremony of Imprints 2010 will be held on Wednesday, 3^rd February 2010 at 9:00 A.M in the College Premises; Prof. Patrick Tauro, Former Director – Haryana Agriculture University, Hisar will be the Chief Guest; Rev. Fr. Swebert D’Silva S.J., Principal – St Aloysius College (Autonomous) will preside over the function.

Imprints 2010 will witness a number of educative, fun-filled, career oriented and brainstorming events in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Sciences, Life Sciences and Biology like The Next Regan, Nuclear Arsenal, Zyklon- B, Digits Of Mayhem, The Metal Curtain, The Saving Thesis, Predator Drone, Avagadro’s Thesis, Pu- 239, Fraunhofer, Amazon Frenzy, Neuron Lapse, Confusion, Virtual Battlefield (Counter Strike, Dota, NFS Most Wanted), Da Alien Code, Q- Blizzard, Trench Warfare, Al Figaro, The Lone Wolf And Medley of Models (Science Exhibition).

The main attraction of Imprints 2010 will be the Medley of Models (Science Exhibition). Imprints 2010 will witness more than 100 science models exhibited by various teams.

Mangalore: St Aloysius College gears up to host Kaustubha – The Media Fiesta

Mangalore, January 27, 2009: ‘Kaustubha – A virtuous Endeavour to triumph a National level media fest, an ambitious venture of the Department of Mass Communication and Media Studies (MCMS), St Aloysius College (Autonomous) will be held on January 28 and 29, 2010. It is aimed at celebrating various aspects of media, films and advertising. The fest would comprise of five media related competitions open for Undergraduate and Postgraduate students all over India.

The competition scheduled to have ‘Pitch in Sanity’ (mad ads); ‘Snapdots’ (photography competition); ‘Bull’s eye’ (press conference) and ‘Decibels’ (making radio jingles)on January 28 and ‘Pro bono’ (making public service ads) followed by ‘Shooting Stars’ on January 29.

‘Shooting Stars’, a national level film making competition will be held on the January 29 of the media fest. It includes submission of different types of movies made by students from many colleges. It was launched in 2005 by Rev Dr Richard Rego SJ, (Director of Community Radio SARANG 107.8 MHz and HOD of MCMS). It provides a forum for opportunity, infrastructure, support, encouragement, and publicity- to student-filmmakers. The films and documentaries will be of 10 min duration. Cash prizes are given for three categories namely Best Konkani film, Best Short Film, and Best Documentary film. Short film and documentary film done in any language other than English will have subtitles in English.

Milestone Music Concert to be held for a cause

Mangalore 26, January 2010: Milestone is one of the most youthful and talented music bands of Mangalore. Milestone has made a place in the heart of the people of Mangalore & Udupi, despite the fact that the band came into existence only a year ago, in 2009.

Milestone has always enthralled the audience with their performances ranging from soft ballads, disco, rock, pop, folk, fusion to foot tapping Baila numbers; Milestone plays all kinds a Genres with a blend of Coastal essence; playing Konkani music with a modern tinge is the specialty of this band.

Kevin Misquith, Lead Vocalist of Milestone; a well known and talented Composer-Musician-Singer is the main source behind the formation of MiLeStoNe Music Group. He is well known among the Konkani music lovers around the world, he is been working in the Konkani music field for the past few years.

Mangalore, January 11, 2010: The Students of St. Aloysius College (Autonomous) boycotted the classes today at 11:00 A.M. in order to participate in the ‘Justice Demand Rally’ and support the ‘All College Bandh’ to express the solidarity to Ms. Soumya a resident of Padavaninangady who died in mysterious circumstances in Ghana on 28th December 2009.

The decision of participating in the ‘All College Bandh’ followed after the Student Council Meeting earlier at 10:00 A.M. and was accepted by the College Management.

Mangalore, January 10, 2010: A Blood Donation Drive was organized to commemorate the inaugural of the Milagres Church Centenary Celebrations 2010-2011 in the Milagres Conference Hall at 11:00 A.M.

The formal program started with invoking Gods’ blessings by way of a classical dance. Mr. Marcel Monteiro, Convenor -Centenary Celebrations Committee escorted the guests to the dais and welcomed the gathering.

Rev. Fr. Thomas Roshan, Asst. Parish Priest; Mr. Marcel Monteiro, President -Centenary Celebrations Committee; Mr. Alwyn Rosario, Vice President  Parish Council; Mr. Stephen Mendes, Western Institutes of Technology and Dr Crystal Moras, In-charge- Fr Muller’s Blood Bank were present on the dais. Blood Donation Drive was inaugurated by the lighting of the traditional lamp by the guests.

Dr. Crystal Moras speaking on this occasion said that the need for blood is ever growing and there is no scientific substitute for blood. Voluntarily collected blood is the key for saving lives.

Mangalore, January 10, 2010: The inaugural of the Milagres Church Centenary Celebrations 2010-2011 with the theme “Come, Let us build our families” started with a solemn concelebrating of Holy Eucharist presided over by Rt. Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore at 9:15 A.M.

Earlier, Rt. Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore; Msgr. A.F. D’Souza, Ex- Parish Priest; Very Rev. Fr. Stany Goveas, Vicar Fornate  Episcopal City Varado; Ms. Mabel Rebello, MP Rajya Sabha and Social Activist from Jharkand; Leslie Fernandes, Chairman of Dockendale Shipping Company Ltd, Bahamas; Stephen Mendes, Western Institutes of Technology were welcomed at the gate and were escorted to the church.

In the formal programme the guests symbolically inaugurated the Jubilee Projects for the poor and deserving.

The Housing Project was inaugurated by Mr. Leslie Ferenandes. The Housing Project will undertake the Construction of 8 houses for the poor in Bondel at the cost of Rs.25 lakhs and provide Financial assistance for construction/repairs of 100 houses.

The Education Project was inaugurated by Ms Mabel Rebello. The Education Project will include assistance to 100 poor children for their education with Rs.5000/- per child and assistance to 100 disabled children with Rs.5000/- per child.

The Health Project will accelerate the free distribution of health cards of Fr. Muller’s Hospital to 1000 parishioners.

Mangalore, January 8, 2010: The Management, Staff and Students of St. Aloysius College Ladies’ Hostel celebrated the Hostel Day 2010 on Friday, 8th January 2010 at 5:45 P.M. here at the St Aloysius Higher Primary School Premises.

The formal program started with invoking Gods’ blessings. The students of the Hostel Choir led us into a prayerful mood through a prayer song. Later, the students of the Hostel welcomed the guests with a classical dance. Later, Ms. Lynsy Marie welcomed the gathering.

Rev. Fr. Francis Serrao SJ, Provincial – Karnataka Jesuit Province was the Chief Guest. Rev. Fr. Swebert D’Silva SJ, Principal – St Aloysius College (Autonomous) and Prof. John E. D’Silva, Principal – St. Aloysius Pre-University College were the Guests of Honour. Rev. Fr. Joseph Rodrigues SJ, Rector – St. Aloysius College Institutions presided over the function.

Rev. Fr. Clifford Sequeira SJ, Director – St. Aloysius College Ladies’ Hostel, Sr. Rosy Tellis, Warden – St. Aloysius College Ladies’ Hostel and Ms. Debakshi Mullick, Hostel Leader were also present on the dais. A floral welcome was given to all the dignitaries.

The students who excelled in academics as well as in extracurricular activities received prizes from the honourable guests. Rev. Fr. Swebert D’Silva SJ and Prof. John E. D’Silva distributed the prizes to the students.

Surathkal parish celebrates annual feast

Mangalore, January 7, 2010: The Parishioners of Sacred Heart Church, Surathkal celebrated their Annual Feast ‘Vodlem Fest’ on January 6, 2010 with pomp and gaiety.

Most Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore was the Main Celebrant. Rev. Fr. John Mendonsa, Vicar General, Pezar Varado and Rev. Fr. Antony Lobo concelebrated.

Fr. Melwyn, Aadyapady; Fr. Stany Fernandes, Ferar; Fr. Paul Rego, Gurpur; Fr. Oswald Lasrado, Permude; Fr. Mathias Pereira, Bajpe; Fr. Anil D’Silva, Bajpe; Fr. Joseph Mascarenhas, Katipalla and Fr. Benjamin Lobo were present for the Eucharistic Celebration.

Mangalore: AICUF Lucky Draw Results

Mangalore, Jan 30: All India Catholic University Federation – (AICUF) Karnataka State conducted the Lucky draw of the Lucky Coupons here at the Teletorium – Arrupe Commerce Block of St. Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangalore. The Lucky Coupons were issued in aid of AICUF State Convention held recently here in December 2009; and also for the other activities of AICUF.

Mr. Prashanth Alison and Mrs. Valenthi Laveena, Animators SAC AICUF Unit were also present along with the AICUFers of St. Aloysius College Unit.
