AICUF State Convention gets underway

Mangalore, December 28, 2009: The All India Catholic University Federation (AICUF) – State Convention 2009 got underway today at Loyola Auditorium of St Aloysius Pre- University College, Mangalore.

His Grace Dr. Bernard Moras, Archbishop of Bangalore inaugurated the AICUF – State Convention ’09 at 11am by lighting the traditional lamp followed by the AICUF office bearers lighting the lamp together with the other guests as a symbol of Unity and Fraternity.

Honourable Justice Michael Saldanha, Former Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court was the Chief Guest on this occasion. His Excellency Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza – Bishop of Mangalore and Rev Sr. Olivia AC – Provincial Superior AC were the Guests of Honour.

Mangalore, December 27, 2009: The month of December is the perfect season for celebrating any occasion be it a wedding or a family re-union. The alumni of the Class of 1975 at St Aloysius Primary and High School chose this occasion to celebrate their re-union. It was a nostalgic journey down the memory lane for the school buddies who came together in large numbers at the Reunion function held at St. Aloysius High School Hall today December 27, 2009.

The program began at 7PM with the Assembly- by singing the School Anthem followed by Mr. Sathish Prabhu welcoming the gathering.

Rev. Fr. Denzil Rasquinha S.J, Former Headmaster of St. Aloysius High School, Rev. Fr. Lawrence Pinto S.J., Former Headmaster of St. Aloysius High School, Rev. Fr. Joseph Ignatius, Rector- St Aloysius College Institutions, Rev. Fr. Denzil Lobo S.J., Director of  AIMIT and Rev. Fr. Melwyn Pinto S.J., Headmaster of St. Aloysius High School were present for the event.

Mangalore, December 25, 2009: The above saying is true with respect to the people of Surathkal also. From recent years Christmas has been a time wherein people from various communities come together and become a part of the X’Mas Fete Celebrations here in Surathkal representing brotherhood, fraternity and peace. People from all age groups eagerly await throughout the year for the X’Mas Fete here in Surathkal Church.

X-MAS FETE ’09 was organized by the Sacred Heart Yuvak Sangh (SHYS / ICYM) of Sacred Heart Church, Surathkal today at 6:00 P.M. in the Church Premises.

In the formal inaugural function, Chris Misquith welcomed the gathering. Deacon Manoj was the Guest of Honour and Fr. Antony Lobo, Parish Priest presided over the function.

Chris Misquith, President – SHYS and Lionel D’Souza, Secretary – SHYS were present on the dais along with the guests. A floral welcome was given to all the dignitaries on the dais.

Addressing the gathering in the inaugural speech Deacon Manoj gave a call to the youth to actively participate in the church activities and help SHYS grow stronger. He also said “No matter what gifts we get from God, ultimately we want God himself”. He concluded wishing the entire gathering – “Let this Christmas season bring peace and happiness to all of us”.

Later in his presidential speech Fr. Antony Lobo, Parish Priest congratulated Sacred Heart Yuvak Sangh for organizing such a meaningful event. He also said that it is the hard work of the energetic members of SHYS that has made this event a reality. He concluded by wishing the gathering the blessings of the new born Jesus.

Mangalore: City gets its first Tata Docomo Dive-In Store

Mangalore, December 22, 2009: The inauguration of the new Tata Docomo Dive-In store took place today at 12:00 PM today. The Dive-In store is situated in the Essel Tower, surrounded by famous educational institutions of the city.

This is the first Dive-In store in the city. Tata Docomo teleservices are quiet famous with the college going crowd due to its unique offers.

When I heard about it I rushed to the store with my camera. I clicked few pictures. But later encountered a guy of the Dive-In store who made me delete all the pics of the event and gave Policy reasons and told me not to publish the news article as the company doesnt want publicity from the local media. They give press releases only selected media itseems. What ever it is if the people of Mangalore are NOT what you target then whom do you want to target?

Speaking to our correspondent Parikshith Braggs, the Event Convenor said “We are a group of young talented artists who are putting up a program on New Years Eve at Lobo’s river view Cascia tile factory open grounds, it is for a charitable cause, and we solicit your support for this program which will benefit a number of people. The program will include a live band singing all the popular numbers, fire jugglers, tattoo artists, Dj’s, a lot of competitions”

St. Aloysius to host AICUF State Convention

Mangalore, December 22, 2009: In preparation for the National Convention to celebrate 85 years of AICUF in June 2010 at Chennai, AICUF Karnataka is organizing a State Convention with the theme “Redefining the future: The Role of Youth Today”  at Loyola Auditorium, St. Aloysius Pre-University College, Mangalore on 28th, 29th and 30th December 2009. There will be 500 Delegates from Karnataka and other parts of India. The delegates include present AICUF members, Ex AICUFers, past and present Animators, Advisors and well wishers.

The National Convention will be held in Loyola College, Chennai wherein the Karnataka AICUF will be represented by 300 participants.

St Aloysius College to present media fest

Mangalore, December 21, 2009: ‘Kaustubha – A virtuous Endeavour to triumph’ a National level media fest, an ambitious venture of the Department of MCMS, St Aloysius College will be held on 28th and 29th January 2010. The fest would comprise of three competitions on the first day, and the exhibition of products of the participants. The winners will be awarded with cash prizes and mementos.

‘Shooting Stars’, a national level film making competition which will be held on the second day of the media fest, includes submission of different types of movies made by students from many colleges. It was launched in 2005 by Rev Dr Richard Rego SJ, (Director of Community Radio SARANG 107.8 MHz and HOD of MCMS). It provides a forum -opportunity, infrastructure, support, encouragement, and publicity- to student-filmmakers. Continue reading

Mangalore, December 19, 2009: United Friends, Bejai presented the much anticipated Mega Musical Night in Mangalore – Turbulence ’09 today at 6:30 P.M. at the Highland Coffee Works, Falnir. Turbulence ’09 was an event organized for a noble cause of helping the Cancer Patients. People from all walks of life and age groups attend this show.

The program started with the traditional lighting of the lamp. The members of the United Friends, Bejai lit the lamp. The presence of the Celebrity DJs like DJ Dev (Rated Top 5 in India), DJ NYK (aka Nikhil Sahni “King of Remixes”), DJ Parax (Pune), DJ Jude (Mangalore) and Carlos Gonsalves (International Drummer) made the event more memorable and made the crowd go gaga.

DJ Dev, DJ NYK, DJ Parax, DJ Jude and Carlos Gonsalves created a magic spell by their remixes and foot tapping numbers.  The crowd danced to their tunes on the dance floor and enjoyed thoroughly. Later DJ NYK aka Nikhil Sahni unveiled his debut album in the attendance of other members of United Friends, Bejai.

Mangalore, December 17, 2009: The above quote was clearly identifiable in each Aloysian marching proudly on the Centenary Grounds of the century old St. Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangalore on the occasion of 130th Annual Sports Meet which was held today at 9:00 AM.

The inaugural program began with invoking God’s blessings; the College Choir led us into prayer. Rev. Fr. Swebert D’Silva, Principal welcomed the gathering.

Mr. Arthur D’Souza, an Eminent Sportsperson, Rev. Fr. Joseph Rodrigues, Rector – St. Aloysius Institutions and Rev. Swebert D’Silva, Principal were present on the dais. A floral welcome was given to the all the guests on the dais.
