Mangalore, December 21, 2009: ‘Kaustubha – A virtuous Endeavour to triumph’ a National level media fest, an ambitious venture of the Department of MCMS, St Aloysius College will be held on 28th and 29th January 2010. The fest would comprise of three competitions on the first day, and the exhibition of products of the participants. The winners will be awarded with cash prizes and mementos.
‘Shooting Stars’, a national level film making competition which will be held on the second day of the media fest, includes submission of different types of movies made by students from many colleges. It was launched in 2005 by Rev Dr Richard Rego SJ, (Director of Community Radio SARANG 107.8 MHz and HOD of MCMS). It provides a forum -opportunity, infrastructure, support, encouragement, and publicity- to student-filmmakers.This year it will be conducted on 30 January 2010. Entries should be submitted to St. Aloysius College, Department of Mass Communication by 21 December 2009.
This competition is open to all students studying in UG or PG. The films and documentaries should not exceed 10 min duration. Cash prizes are given for three categories namely Best Konkani film, Best Short Film, and Best Documentary film.
Short film and documentary film done in any language other than English must have subtitles in English.
Shooting Stars is a place of convergence for the best and the brightest young minds envisioning new paradigms in cinema. It provides a friendly and productive environment for media students to voice, learn, debate and discuss major issues of the day through self-made cinema. It also gives an opportunity for students to get exposed to ideas that will help them grow and take flight. The fest also gives an opportunity for students to network with progressive individuals from every corner of the nation who wish to make it big in the media industry.
