Mangalore: St. Aloysius College Ladies Hostel celebrates Hostel Day

Mangalore, January 8, 2010: The Management, Staff and Students of St. Aloysius College Ladies’ Hostel celebrated the Hostel Day 2010 on Friday, 8th January 2010 at 5:45 P.M. here at the St Aloysius Higher Primary School Premises.

The formal program started with invoking Gods’ blessings. The students of the Hostel Choir led us into a prayerful mood through a prayer song. Later, the students of the Hostel welcomed the guests with a classical dance. Later, Ms. Lynsy Marie welcomed the gathering.

Rev. Fr. Francis Serrao SJ, Provincial – Karnataka Jesuit Province was the Chief Guest. Rev. Fr. Swebert D’Silva SJ, Principal – St Aloysius College (Autonomous) and Prof. John E. D’Silva, Principal – St. Aloysius Pre-University College were the Guests of Honour. Rev. Fr. Joseph Rodrigues SJ, Rector – St. Aloysius College Institutions presided over the function.

Rev. Fr. Clifford Sequeira SJ, Director – St. Aloysius College Ladies’ Hostel, Sr. Rosy Tellis, Warden – St. Aloysius College Ladies’ Hostel and Ms. Debakshi Mullick, Hostel Leader were also present on the dais. A floral welcome was given to all the dignitaries.

The students who excelled in academics as well as in extracurricular activities received prizes from the honourable guests. Rev. Fr. Swebert D’Silva SJ and Prof. John E. D’Silva distributed the prizes to the students.

Addressing the gathering Rev. Fr. Francis Serrao SJ, Chief Guest said “St. Aloysius College Ladies’ Hostel is a true home, because it is made of true heart; there is parental care, nurturing and great affection”

He congratulated the Management, Staff and Students of St. Aloysius College Ladies’ Hostel for organizing the Hostel Day. “You are the inheritor of this rich legacy of St Aloysius College with over 13 decades of existence; become proud citizens and successful daughters of Mother India” he added.

Giving a piece of advice Rev. Fr. Serrao concluded saying “Learn to determine the difference between what is good and what is good- but not so useful for you to develop; also formulate a set of life sustaining human values”

In his Presidential Address Rev. Fr. Joseph Rodrigues SJ, Rector said that St. Aloysius College is completing the 24th year of the Ladies presence in the campus. He also said “ with the feminine touch and feminine talent, you have a great responsibility to play; work on your goals and dreams, without losing your focus, for you have a great role to play”. Ms. Debakshi Mullick, Hostel Leader delivered the vote of thanks. Ms. Amanda D’Souza compeered the formal function. A graphical video presentation of the activities of St. Aloysius College Ladies’ Hostel was presented.

The cultural and entertainment program followed. Dance till the stars come down from the rafters Dance, Dance, and Dance till you drop; this was clearly identifiable in each of the performances of the students of St. Aloysius College Ladies’ Hostel including hip hop, Bollywood, and classical dances. Later, a traditional fashion show was staged to showcase the culture, tradition, diversity of India.

Later, the students of St. Aloysius College Ladies’ Hostel also staged a Kannada Play called “Ajji Kathe”.

The program concluded with the dance floor open to the students of St. Aloysius College Ladies’ Hostel for the most loved Baila-Baila! A sumptuous dinner was served.
