Mangalore: Centenary Celebrations of Milagres Church begin

Mangalore, January 10, 2010: The inaugural of the Milagres Church Centenary Celebrations 2010-2011 with the theme “Come, Let us build our families” started with a solemn concelebrating of Holy Eucharist presided over by Rt. Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore at 9:15 A.M.

Earlier, Rt. Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore; Msgr. A.F. D’Souza, Ex- Parish Priest; Very Rev. Fr. Stany Goveas, Vicar Fornate  Episcopal City Varado; Ms. Mabel Rebello, MP Rajya Sabha and Social Activist from Jharkand; Leslie Fernandes, Chairman of Dockendale Shipping Company Ltd, Bahamas; Stephen Mendes, Western Institutes of Technology were welcomed at the gate and were escorted to the church.

In the formal programme the guests symbolically inaugurated the Jubilee Projects for the poor and deserving.

The Housing Project was inaugurated by Mr. Leslie Ferenandes. The Housing Project will undertake the Construction of 8 houses for the poor in Bondel at the cost of Rs.25 lakhs and provide Financial assistance for construction/repairs of 100 houses.

The Education Project was inaugurated by Ms Mabel Rebello. The Education Project will include assistance to 100 poor children for their education with Rs.5000/- per child and assistance to 100 disabled children with Rs.5000/- per child.

The Health Project will accelerate the free distribution of health cards of Fr. Muller’s Hospital to 1000 parishioners.

As a part of the Health Project Mr. Marcel Monteiro, Convenor -Centenary Celebrations Committee handed over a Cheque of Rs 5,55,555 to Rt. Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore towards the Mangalore Diocese’s Health Relief Fund. Later, the guests were honoured with shawl, memento and fruits.

On this joyful occasion Very Rev. Fr. Stany Goveas, Vicar Fornate – Episcopal City Varado unleashed his new book Athmik Daayz’.

By blessing the effigy of Our Lady of Miracles; Rt. Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore symbolically inaugurated the year-long Pilgrimage of Our Lady of Miracles that will be taken from one house to another.

“Year long programmes have been chalked out in order to build greater unity in the parish by building families on the foundation of love, sacrifice, understanding, and faith to be living witnesses of Christ. Finally, we wish to build our parish as one family” says Rev. Fr. Walter D’Mello.
