Mangalore: St. Aloysius College hosts National Seminar on Biodiversity

Mangalore, 22 February, 2010: St. Aloysius College (Autonomous) in association with Pilikula Nisarga Dhama (R) conducted a One day National Level Seminar on “Biodiversity: An Endless Exploration” here today at 9:30 A.M.in the Eric Mathias/ IT Auditorium in the College Premises.

The program began by invoking God’s blessing by the way of a prayer song led by the college students. Later, Prof. M. L. Sureshnath, HOD – Dept. of Botany welcomed the gathering and introduced the guests to the audience.

Prof. Dr. N. A. Madhyastha, Former Principal of Poorna Prajna College, Udupi was the Chief Guest and Fr. Swebert D’Silva S.J, Principal – St. Aloysius College (Autonomous) presided over the inaugural ceremony. Fr. Leo D’Souza S.J -Former Rector and Director of Laboratory for Applied Biology, SAC; Ms. Serena D’Souza -Dept. of Biotechnology; Prof. Nagalakshmi -HOD, Dept. of Botany and Mr. Mukesh were also present on the dais. A floral welcome was given to all the dignitaries. Later, Prof. Dr. N. A. Madhyastha along with the guests inaugurated the National Seminar “Biodiversity: An Endless Exploration” by lighting the traditional lamp.

Milestone- A Concert for a Noble Cause

Surathkal / Mangalore February 15, 2010: ‘Milestone Music Concert’ is the first of Milestone Music Group’s music concerts. The music concert was presented here at the Surathkal Church Grounds on 14th February 2010. The concert hosted the compositions of multi-talented songwriter and composer Kevin Misquith; while Ashwin-Lionel endowed the music along with others.

It was an occasion for all the passionate Konkani Music lovers to enjoy. The response was fabulous and the eagerness amongst the viewers and especially among the children was perceptible. People from all walks of life and age groups attend this show in spite of the Section 144 that was in force in Surathkal from the past few days.

Milestone Music Concert paid tribute to the legends of Konkani music by performing their classic numbers and took us aback to the 60’s and 70’s musical era; this was an attempt to revive Konkani music among the younger generation. The new age compositions of Kevin were also presented without distorting the original essence of Konkani music.

The audience was taken in a musical journey  by the melodious performances of Kevin Misquith, Sherin Walder, Stafny D’Souza , Melvyn, Shailesh Pereira, Carol Monteiro, Prajwal D’Sa and Clelia D’Souza who sang ‘Chondrem Udevn Aailo’, ‘Bholo’, ‘Kantara’, ‘Ye go Jacintha’, ‘Raat Moni Moni’, ‘Juliana’, ‘Roslyn’, ‘Sobith Dole’, ‘Sayachi Rati’, ‘Kenna’ and ‘Ye Kathrina’. The crowds were also entertained by the humorous performances of Jerry Rasquinha and Joseph Pinto.

M’lore: Tiger 5’s kicks off at SAC

Mangalore, January 28, 2010: Tiger 5’s Football Tournament -‘Hunt for the campus Tigers’ organized by the Football Club of St. Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangalore kick started today at 4:30 P.M in the Centenary Grounds.

In the inaugural program Mr. Donnet D’Souza, Convenor / Physical Director SAC welcomed all the football lovers present for the event. In his inaugural address Mr. D’Souza said “By organizing these kinds of events we aim to build a good student team within the college by entertaining young students and identify the best ones in the game. Later he declared the tournament open with a penalty shoot.  He later instructed and explained the rules and regulations to all the teams. Mr.Arun, Asst. Physical Director SAC was the referee for the day’s matches.

Twenty Five teams entered the Tiger 5’s Football Tournament at the Centenary Grounds, including teams from High School, PU, UG and PG. Only students from St. Aloysius Institutions i.e. High School / PU / UG / PG are eligible to form a team and participate in this event.
