Mangalore, March 17, 2010: The Management of St. Aloysius College (Autonomous) and the faculty of Department of Computer Sciences & B.C.A. organized a farewell function for the outgoing students of B.C.A. today at 3:25 P.M. in the College Auditorium.
Fr. Francis D’Almeida, Vice Principal / Campus Minister presided over the function. Prof. Ronald Pinto, Vice Principal- Science; Prof. A.M. Narahari, Registrar of Evaluation; Prof. Lourduswamy, Vice Principal- PG Block; Mr. Ashok Prasad, Dean of Dept. of Computer Sciences and Mrs. Premalatha, Class Guide, III BCA were the dignitaries present on the dais.
Mr. Ashok Prasad, Dean of Dept. of Computer Sciences welcomed the gathering and a floral welcome was given to all the guests present on the dais.
The farewell function was inaugurated by placing the candles on a display stand. The dignitaries, students along with the lecturers placed the lit candles on the display stand, symbolizing ‘sacrifice’ – just as a candle melts and ‘new direction’- light shows the path by diminishing darkness.
The farewell was emotional and nostalgic which was evident from the fact that Clarissa, Student of III BCA was choked with emotions while expressing her thoughts. One could imagine how the memories of the incipient stages of the College and their academic struggle must have flooded her memory making her speechless momentarily. She soon regained her composure and thanked every one for being a part of her most cherished memories.
Recalling his life in St. Aloysius as a BCA student, Alston D’Souza said “We had years of the best of everything, the opportunities to work with the best people and for the chances to be a part of interesting experiences. We were not merely classmates, but we were a family; and the college was our second home’.
He said “College is a place that teaches us things both on purpose, and by accident. It is this combination of book learning and life learning that gives us the foundation for all that we become.” He concluded by saying “St. Aloysius College and all those who are associated with it will live in our hearts forever’.
Prof. Lourduswamy, Vice Principal – PG Block in his message said “After three years of study, you are sent on a mission to serve your community, your country and mankind. Take the good memories with you and reach great heights”.
Delivering his message to the outgoing students of BCA, Prof. Ronald Pinto, Vice Principal – Science Block said that people meet to make memories, and at this juncture, we have to select only the good and most cherished memories of our life and move on to a new beginning in this competitive world.
Prof. Pinto, concluded by congratulating the students and emphasized to uphold the ethos of the St. Aloysius College and serve the mankind in a better way.
Addressing the gathering Prof. A.M. Narahari, Registrar of Evaluation said that during a relationship with this great institute for three long years, we tend to create a bond; and on this day when we head for a new beginning in our life, we reflect back upon what we have done. Prof. Narahari urged the students to uphold the values of this great institution and concluded by advising the students to believe in hard work, and believe in opportunities created on the way.
“Every end has a beginning- so always start something new; create a new identity for you in society as an Aloysian” said Mrs. Premalatha addressing the students.
In his Presidential Address Fr. Francis D’Almeida SJ said “St. Aloysius College is known to create Men and Women for others; so continue to give to the society, give everything – just like a burning candle”.
“Knowledge is greater than everything; but we should also cultivate social and spiritual values that can change the society” he added. He concluded by wishing the students a bright and successful future.
Later, the group photographs were distributed to the students by the dignitaries. Mr. Ravindrawamy, Dept. of Electronics compeered the farewell function.
Other departments of St. Aloysius College including B.Com, Science, Arts and BBM also organized the farewell function in their respective blocks.
